Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is a combination of a sport and art. Unlike other types of fishing, fly fishing is an art. The selection of the correct fly fishing gear is in itself a great challenge unless you are versed and experienced in fly fishing. The Sage Classic is my personal favorite fly fishing rod. Obtaining just the right fly fishing gear is a work in progress and different weights and flies provide many variations that can be used. On the stream, the process of laying the fly at the right spot over and over is like a ballerina doing a routine over and over – beauty in motion. It takes practice to learn, but once fly fishing is mastered, it is an art.

For me, Alaska fly fishing is second to none. The sport of going fishing is not a team sport but one of individual performance and individual satisfaction. It is even better if you use fly fishing flies that you have created. At the end of the day, the success that you have had on the stream is a combination of individual skill and persistence as well as the evasiveness of the fish. Any day may not be the best for catching the limit, but the worst day on the stream still beats a day in the office.
